Use AI Drawing Assist on Galaxy phones and tablets

AI Drawing Assist on Galaxy phones and tablets brings your drawings and doodles to life! You can create AI sketches when using Samsung Notes, the Gallery app, and the new Smart Select feature in the Edge panel. Plus, AI Drawing Assist can be used with the S Pen on supported devices for extra precise sketching.

Use AI Drawing Assist on Galaxy phones and tablets

  • Galaxy AI basic features provided by Samsung are free. Any Samsung enhanced AI features and all third party AI features are subject to different terms and may be subject to fees. (Galaxy AI basic features are listed under "Advanced intelligence" in Samsung Services Terms and Conditions.)
  • AI-generated photos and artworks will include a watermark.
  • A Samsung account login is required.
  • Drawing assist with Galaxy AI is supported on select phones and tablets running Android 14 with One UI 6.1 through Android 16 with One UI 8.0. If this feature isn't available on your device, it may not be compatible. Ensure your device is updated.
  • Features and menu options may vary by device and software version.

AI Drawing with AI select

Note
On Galaxy devices updated to One UI 6.1.1 and later, the feature formerly known as "Smart select" has been rebranded to "AI select." While the name has changed, the functionality remains based on the original Smart select feature, offering the same intuitive tools for capturing and editing screen content.

AI select with AI Drawing Assist lets you select anything on your screen and sketch in an AI-generated image!

  1. To begin, swipe left on the Edge panel handle on the right side of the screen, and then tap AI select (or Smart select) at the top.

  2. Tap something on your screen, such as a photo. Then, tap Photo assist.
  3. Tap Create, and then tap the Sketch to image icon (the paintbrush).

  4. Using the S Pen or your finger, draw anything you'd like to generate on the image, and then tap Generate to let the AI fine-tune your drawing into an image.

    Customize your drawing:
    • Pencil: Change the color of your drawing.
    • Eraser: Erase parts your drawing.
    • Back and Forward arrows: Undo or Redo your drawing.
  5. From there, you can Review and Edit:
    • Tap Show previous to view the original image.
    • Tap Undo to return to editing mode.
    • Tap Keep editing to make additional changes.

AI Drawing with Samsung Notes

You can use AI Drawing with the Samsung Notes app if you'd like to add a fun sketch or doodle to your notes.

  1. Navigate to and open the Samsung Notes app, and then either start a new note by tapping Create note (the pencil and pad icon) or open an existing note.

  2. Begin drawing in a blank spot on the note using the S Pen or your finger.
  3. When you're finished drawing, tap the Note Assist icon (the four stars) on the toolbar, then tap Creative studio, and then tap Generate from existing. The option will vary depending on your software version.

  4. Trace around your drawing to select it, then select a style template (3D cartoon, Etching, Childhood sketch, Marker drawing, Webtoon, Soft illustration, etc.), and enter a description of what you want to create into the prompt area.
  5. Tap Generate.

  6. AI-generated images will appear; swipe left and right to find your favorite, or tap Generate one more for more options.
  7. Tap Replace to overwrite your drawing, or tap Done to place it below. Once added to your note, you can drag the image to reposition it. Then, tap Back to save.

AI Drawing with the Gallery app

Lastly, you can use AI Drawing to modify your photos in the Gallery app.

  1. Open the Gallery app, and then select a photo.
  2. Tap the Photo Assist icon (the four stars).

  3. Use Create to describe changes in the text field, or tap the Add from image icon to add something from another image. Tap Generate to see the magic.
  4. Use Style to change the photo's look. Tap Generate and swipe to create more versions.
  5. Swipe left and tap Generate one more to view the different generated sketches until you find your favorite.
  6. Tap Show previous to view the original photo.
  7. When you're finished, tap Save copy to save the new photo.
